At Nichols Point we have a vision of how we can best prepare our students to succeed in the first decades of the 21st century. We place an important emphasis on teaching our students the core subjects of Literacy and Numeracy.
However, students need to know more than core subjects if they are to seek and maintain employment in the 21st century. They need to know how to use their knowledge and skills-by thinking critically, applying knowledge to new situations, analysing information, comprehending new ideas, communicating, collaborating, solving problems, and making decisions.
We recognize that “technology is, and will continue to be, a driving force in workplaces, communities, and personal lives in the 21st century.” Learning for the 21st Century emphasizes the importance of incorporating information and communication technologies into education from the Primary grades up.
It is important that we provide our students at Nichols Point with experiences that are relevant to students’ lives, connected with the world beyond the classroom, and are based on authentic projects central to the sort of education the Partnership for 21st Century Skills defines as the appropriate context for learning in the information age.
To fulfil our vision we have a well-resourced ICT school that allows all students daily access to technology devices as well as skills and knowledge of how and why technology enhances learning.
Our Prep students have access to iPads with apps on them to support our classroom learning.
Apps such as: Reading Eggs and Teach your Monster to Read support our Literacy program.
